Featuring advanced aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels and an AAO frame, the NF-A4x10 5V PWM is a PWM enabled 5V variant of Noctua’s award-winning, premium-quality quiet 40x10mm fan. The custom-designed NE-FD3 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive and Noctua’s reference class SSO2 bearings guarantee superb running smoothness and excellent long-term stability. Topped off with modular cabling, the OmniJoin Adaptor Set, the NF-A4x10 5V PWM is a premium choice for demanding 5V applications that require PWM control.
Note: Being a 5V fan, the Noctua NF-A4x10 5V CANNOT be run at 12V and will be damaged when used with typical 12V power sources such as PC mainboard fan headers.
Thanks to the USB adapter (Included), the 5V fan can be operated on USB power supplies and power banks for smartphones. With the OmniJoin adapter set and the integrated reverse polarity protection, it is also possible to install the fan safely in many devices with proprietary fan connections such as 3D printers, digital video recorders, or network and storage solutions.
The impeller of the NF-A4X10 5V PWM is equipped with so-called flow acceleration channels on the suction side. By accelerating the airflow in the critical outer regions of the fan blades, vortex shedding on the suction side is reduced, which leads to higher efficiency and lower turbulence-related noise emissions.
Noctua's AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames have integrated vibration buffers as well as a stepped inlet area (Stepped Inlet Design) and a microstructure in the interior (Inner Surface Microstructures), which enable even better performance/noise efficiency.
The anti-vibration pads made of extra-soft silicone reduce the transmission of minimal vibrations and are at the same time compatible with all standard screws and commercially available mounting systems or fan clips used with CPU coolers. The fan is with the further optimized second generation of Noctua's proven SSO storage system fitted. With SSO2, the magnet on the back is closer to the fan axis and thus provides even better stabilization, which leads to further improved precision and durability.
Supporting fully automatic PWM speed control, the NF-A4x10 5V PWM uses Noctua’s custom-designed NE-FD3 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at low speeds.
Check out this video on adding the fan on a Jetson Nano board by JetsonHacks:
Note: In this video, he uses Noctua NF-A4X20 5V PWM. We tested Noctua NF-A4X10 5V PWM with Jetson Nano and it works the same. :)
To turn the fan on manually at full speed, run this command:
$ sudo sh -c 'echo 255 > /sys/devices/pwm-fan/target_pwm'
You can change the value 255 to other values from 0 (off) to 255 (full speed) to adjust the fan speed
Note: If you wish to use the fan on a Jetson Nano board, you will need to get M3x12mm screws separately.
